Overview

This AI-driven internet security platform protects homes, SMBs, multi-branch businesses, and ISPs. Designed as a hybrid solution, it combines cloud intelligence with a physical gateway device—making cybersecurity as seamless as plugging in a Wi-Fi router. It’s been evolving since 2016, redefining how non-tech-savvy users and enterprise admins manage online safety.

Role & Responsibilities

As Product Designer and UX/UI Lead, I was the design brain behind this complex security solution. Think of me as the translator between “enterprise-grade protection” and “my mom can actually use this.

Key contributions:

  • Created 70+ screens for multiple user types
  • Hand-coded modular HTML/CSS system for web and hardware UI
  • Developed a fidelity assurance guide for third-party developers
  • Created packaging, collaterals, and developer documentation

The Challenge

Cyber threats evolve fast, but most users—especially in homes and SMBs—lack the tools or expertise to defend themselves. While enterprise firewalls exist, they’re often complex and intimidating. We set out to deliver enterprise-grade security in a human-friendly, approachable product that anyone could use.

Design Process

Research

We analyzed global user behavior, malware attack vectors, IoT usage risks, and business demands. Research showed that:

  • 93% of users had no active protection
  • 45% avoided IoT purchases due to cyber risk
  • Usability, not just features, was the barrier to adoption

 Ideation

Collaborated with product and tech leads to define core modules and user personas—ranging from tech-averse home users to enterprise admins needing audit trails, logs, and advanced controls.

UX Strategy & Flow Design

Mapped user journeys across:

  • Management App
  • Sales Agent Portal
  • Admin Panel
  • Support Interface
  • End-user landing page

Created low- and high-fidelity prototypes for all flows—focusing on transparency, control, and trust.

 UI Design & Prototyping

Crafted a soft, clean visual language aligned with branding. I built a modular UI system that allowed quick assembly of layouts while maintaining consistency.

 Testing & Iteration

Conducted usability tests and heuristic evaluations to refine key flows. Used real-world feedback to simplify onboarding and reduce cognitive load.

Visual System & Style Guide

Built a modular component library and visual framework:

  • Card components, device lists, access controls, alerts
  • State-based design (active, error, disabled)
  • Typography and spacing guidelines for visual hierarchy
  • Custom color palette built around trust and clarity

Outcome

The platform launched across thousands of home and business locations, earning high praise for its usability and design clarity. Customers reported:

  • Easier setup compared to competitors
  • Stronger trust in device management
  • Increased usage of security features (e.g. time limits, device blocks)

The design system and markup architecture remain in use and continue evolving with new features.
